A great day for British Sports

We settled down to watch the Wimbledon men's semi-final, happy to see sunny skies had replaced the dark grey things that belched rain all morning long.  The crowd was either extraordinarily fond of the opponent or looped on Pimm's cup because they cheered almost as much for the French Jo-Wilfried as for the English Andy.  But when it came down to the last match points there was really no question where everyone's heart lay.

After 74 years, there is Brit in the final.  Rather good timing given it's the Queen's diamond jubilee and the Olympics start in 3 weeks.  Coincidence?  I leave that for you to decide depending on Sunday's final game.

On the other hand, another favourite British event was mired in mud and rain.  Silverstone raceway hosts the British Formula 1 grand prix, as well as thousands of camping fans in neighbouring fields.  The rainstorms have wreeked such havoc that thousands of cars are gridlocked on the muddy roads.  Even racer Jenson Button's camper van is stuck in the mud up to its axles.  And the qualifying round hasn't even started yet!

Ticket holders are being implored not to come and add to the chaos.  Oh yeah, try telling a British fan that he forgo attending the biggest race of his sport in his country and that cost him several hundred pounds per ticket.  Nice one.
