Spoils from a Lyonnaise market

fresh cut pineapple

baskets filled with a variety of garlic and onions for 1 euro

translated as "Catnip"

Everything we bought in one wonderful, gigantic picnic!

When we were buying the Chanterrelle mushroom at the only stall that had them, the seller told us to make riz en veau and to get the veau from the second stall past the lane - we duly found them but they were called ris en veau, which translates to veal sweetbreads. That stall owner was thrilled to sell them to us and to tell us exactly how to prepare and cook them.  Which we did.  And they were gloriously tender and delicate.

A robust country pate and some cheeses of varying ages and coverings from ash to herbs
and of course some Brilliat Savarin!

We could not decide between the traditional apple tart or the pear and custard, so bought both (mais oui!)
